Server Instructions:

1. Open MedCast 3000 by
clicking the ‘Start’ button and going to ‘All
Programs’, ‘MedCast 3000’ and then ‘MedCast
3000’. If you do not have MedCast 3000, it can be downloaded and
installed from: <http://www.indorgs.virginia.edu/radgroup/MedCast>.
You must have administrative rights to install the software; if you do not,
speak with your network administrator.
2. A splash screen will
appear as ‘MedCast 3000’, double-click on it or hit the ‘escape’
button.
3. The microphone check will then appear. If
you do not wish to test the microphone, proceed by clicking ‘Done’,
otherwise you can hear a sample recording by first clicking ‘Record’,
speaking into the microphone, then hitting the ‘Stop’
button. Now you can listen to your recording by clicking ‘Play’.
If you cannot hear your voice at a desired volume, first make sure the speakers
are set to a high enough volume and that the microphones are connected and are
on. If you would still like to increase the microphone volume you can do so by
dragging the ‘Microphone Volume’ further to the right. Click
‘Done’ when done. For technical information regarding the
microphone and audio quality, refer to the end of this document.
4. You must now open a PowerPoint
presentation using the ‘Open Presentation’ button. Browse to
the location where your presentation is, e.g. on a USB flash drive, and open
the ‘.ppt’ file.
(Technical
Information: At this time the software requires the user to use a
PowerPoint file. In later versions the user will have the option of
broadcasting any content that shows on the presenter’s desktop and not
just a PowerPoint presentation. You can view the IP address from which you will
be broadcasting. If presenting from Moss Amphitheatre in the Radiology
department, it will always be ‘http://10.2.16.38:8080/’ and
clients will be aware of that, as it is outlined in the Client Instructions.
Otherwise if you are presenting from another location, you must provide the
address to the client which is “http://” + “your IP
address” + “:” + “your Port”. With this version
of the software you must broadcast from a static IP address and cannot be
behind a router, e.g. being on a wireless network will not work.)

5. The message box “Your
Selection is Ready for Viewing” will pop-up, press ‘OK’. You
must now enter the Author, Title and Comments information and then you can
press the ‘Run Slideshow’ button to bring up the slideshow
in the background.

6. You can begin broadcasting and presenting
anytime by pressing ‘Start Encode’. The software will
automatically minimize and you can start presenting. To exit at any point
during the presentation, hit ‘escape’ on the keyboard. Otherwise,
you can close the program once your presentation is complete and you’ve
reached the end of slideshow. Note that the actual PowerPoint file will
never be accessible to the viewers or anyone else at any time during or after
the presentation. (Technical Information: The software can
automatically archive the presentation as a Video file on a specified location
(local computer or shared drive). These settings can be changed in the
‘Live! Settings’ and ‘Encoding Profile’ tabs. Default
settings are set to save on the local C drive.)
